The Barbour Westmorland Waxed Gilet is a practical sleeveless alternative to a traditional waxed jacket, combining Barbour's countrywear character with the flexibility of an easy layering piece. Made from 6oz Sylkoil waxed cotton, it has a softer, drier-feeling finish than traditional Thornproof wax and is lightly wadded to add warmth without excessive bulk.
A two-way front zip and studded storm fly provide useful protection in changeable weather, while moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets and large lower bellows pockets add everyday practicality. The corduroy-lined collar and cotton Barbour tartan lining complete a design that works particularly well over shirts and knitwear when a full waxed jacket is not required.

The original Westmorland had a more traditional regular-to-relaxed fit. When Barbour updated the design, initially calling it the New Westmorland, the cut became noticeably slimmer.
Although Barbour currently describes the Westmorland as a relaxed fit with room for layering, our experience of the renewed version is that it wears closer through the body than the original. It still works well over a shirt or sensible knitwear layer, but customers wanting a particularly roomy fit or planning to wear substantial layers underneath should pay close attention to the garment measurements.
