Barbour Bristol Waxed Jacket – Olive
The Barbour Bristol is a tailored men's wax jacket that combines familiar Barbour countrywear details with a cleaner, more contemporary shape. Made from mediumweight 6oz Sylkoil waxed cotton, it offers dependable protection in changeable weather without the bulk of an insulated winter coat.
A two-way front zip and studded storm guard provide practical protection at the front, while the corduroy collar, throat strap and moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets add comfort in colder conditions. Lower bellows pockets provide useful everyday storage, while the tartan lining keeps the jacket unmistakably Barbour.
The Bristol also has several details that distinguish it from better-known styles such as the Ashby and Bedale. It has corduroy-lined open cuffs rather than knitted inner storm cuffs, a clean rear without riding-style vents, additional detailing around the handwarmer pocket welts, a wallet-style pocket inside the front zip stand and a separate zipped inner pocket.
Fit Advice
A tailored Barbour shape
The Bristol has a neater, more shaped fit than traditional regular-fit Barbour jackets such as the Bedale. It still allows useful everyday layering, but customers planning to wear substantial knitwear underneath should check the garment measurements before choosing a size.
The Bristol is slightly longer than the Ashby rather than dramatically longer. In the comparable Medium garments we have measured, the Bristol is approximately 80cm from the base of the collar to the hem, compared with around 77cm for the Ashby.

Frequently Asked Questions

The waxed-cotton outer is designed to resist rain and wind, but it should not be treated in the same way as a fully waterproof technical shell. Periodic rewaxing helps maintain the protective wax finish.
What is the fit of the Barbour Bristol like?
The Bristol has a tailored fit and sits closer through the body than more traditional Barbour styles such as the Bedale. Check the garment measurements if you intend to wear heavier layers underneath.
Is the Bristol much longer than the Ashby?
No. The Bristol is slightly longer. In the Medium garments we have compared, the Bristol measures approximately 80cm from collar to hem and the Ashby approximately 77cm.
Does the Bristol have knitted inner storm cuffs?
No. The Bristol has open cuffs with corduroy lining rather than the ribbed knitted storm cuffs found inside the Bedale sleeves.
Does the Bristol have rear riding vents?
No. The Bristol has a clean rear without the riding-style vents associated with the Bedale.
Can a hood or liner be added?
The Bristol is designed for use with compatible Barbour hood and zip-in liner options, which are sold separately. Check the relevant accessory sizing before ordering.
Can I rewax the jacket myself?
Yes. Barbour wax dressing can be used for home rewaxing, or the jacket can be sent for a professional Barbour rewaxing service.
Is the Bristol an insulated winter jacket?
No. The Bristol is a mediumweight waxed jacket rather than a heavily insulated coat. In colder weather, warmth can be adjusted with knitwear or a compatible zip-in liner.
