Both need maintenance, but the methods are almost opposites.

A Barbour wax jacket should be sponge cleaned rather than put in a washing machine. The Allweathers Ashby and Bedale care guidance recommends sponge cleaning and annual reproofing, while Barbour also recommends regular rewaxing depending on wear and use.
